Life’s stories are like tracks on an album of music. Some are short, others are long; most are only vaguely related, but are most definitely related; many things make them unique, but I guarantee that someone you’ll never meet is still out there somewhere singing a similar song.

Pain brings out the comfortable in all of us. Whether that means writing an angry letter you know you'll never have the courage to send, or screaming your spite out for all four walls of your room to hear as you bash your hand into a guitar, or even just getting really, really drunk, the patterns stay the same. You get mad, so you do That Thing you like doing when you get mad, and hopefully you feel better.

It doesn't always work.

'Trackback' is one man's way of coping with sorrow and regret: A depressed recollection of every major moment — mostly losses, but occasionally a triumph — that pulls double-duty as his search to understand what went wrong and his mechanism for finally letting it all go.
